Dance has been part of Ryan's life since childhood; growing up in Toronto, the dance studio felt like an extension of home and set the foundation for his artistic development.
“Timing is crazy important to everything we do in this performance. It is serious for the characters, what is going on, and at the same time points must be made”

Ryan trained at the National Ballet School of Canada, where he built a solid foundation in classical ballet that proved crucial to his professional career. In 2017 he joined the Royal Ballet, earning promotion to soloist in 2021 and solo dancer in 2022. His artistic range became clear in 2019 when he danced Armand Duval in John Neumeier's Lady of the Camellias, a role demanding both technical virtuosity and dramatic presence. In August 2025 he was appointed soloist at New York City Ballet, expanding his international reach while allowing closer contact with family.
For Ryan, dance is more than technical precision and aesthetics; in narrative ballets, storylines and relationships are expressed through movement, while abstract works emphasise intention and presence. His artistic courage shows in his willingness to accept challenges, leave the safe path, and continually develop his expression, a journey that has taken him from Toronto to Copenhagen and now New York.
Ryan has received an award in recognition of his outstanding talent, dedication, and significant contribution as a ballet dancer. His strong stage presence, refined technique, and depth of expression have left a lasting impression on audiences and colleagues. Aligned with Henrik Lyding's ideals of artistic quality, the relationship between artist and audience, and the development of the performing arts, Ryan continues the Foundation's values and helps shape the next generation of ballet artists.
