BenjaminKitter

Benjamin Kitter grew up in an acting family, but the path into the profession was neither given nor uncomplicated. Only in his early twenties did he find peace in the decision to dedicate himself to acting as his own artistic path.

At theatre school, the nature of his drive changed: from living up to a legacy, it became essential for him to take ownership of his own artistic position. Here he experienced for the first time the magical moment when the craft of acting rises to art in the encounter between actor, role and audience. In that shared space between performer and audience, a tension arises that Benjamin describes as both meaningful and transformative, an experience of the space "breathing together."

Benjamin is particularly drawn to complex characters, especially those who appear dark or unsympathetic on the surface. His work always seeks to reveal the whole person behind all the layers, and it is often here that the production is allowed to live on after the curtain falls.

Theatre is Benjamin's artistic home, where in creative collaboration with director and ensemble he shapes the process and contributes to the development of each production. For him, the stage is a space where technical craft, artistic courage and emotional presence meet, and where the audience's engagement confirms the value of art.

Benjamin Kitter received the award in recognition of his inspiring talent, versatility and significant contribution to Danish theatre and performing arts. From his strong debut at the Royal Danish Theatre to convincing performances in both classical and modern productions, his work has repeatedly demonstrated depth, range and emotional clarity.

In keeping with Henrik Lyding's ideals of the power of storytelling and the transformative role of the actor on stage, Benjamin Kitter gives voice to these values through his craft and dedication, carrying forward the foundation's legacy in Danish performing arts.

The Jury Said:

When Benjamin Kitter played the poet Cyrano de Bergerac at Odense Teater, a sense of joy spread through the audience. His presence was sharp, magnetic and musical; a noble soldier in the midst of war and impossible love, played with gifted ease and humour. He demonstrated the same quality as the talking scarecrow in 'Kammerat Napoleon'. Whatever he plays, he commands attention.

Henrik Lyding reviewed Benjamin Kitter diligently and with great enthusiasm, both in Jyllands-Posten and in Teateravisen. We are convinced that Henrik Lyding would have delighted in seeing Benjamin Kitter receive his prize. Congratulations!
